Portrait of James Moffitt in uniform. One of the founders of the Oakland volunteer fire department and elected its chief in 1883. Came to California in 1846, working on a ship that came around the horn. Real estate investor, hotel and restaurant owner. From 1859 on, he lived in Oakland. [1885]
