Tinkham. Pg. [484]. Esto Bates Broughton was born Jan. 9, 1890 in Modesto to James Richard Broughton and Jennie Bates. Graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with J.D. degree. Worked a variety of jobs. Elected to the California State Legislature, serving from 1919-1925; served as publicity director for Pasadena Playhouse from 1929-30; reportor for the San Francisco News, 1925-26; worked Capital News Bureau, 1927-29; taught at University of Hawaii, 1935-36. Died Nov. 20, 1956.
