Description
This manuscript records the transfer of a section of Mission Santa Clara’s property, after secularization, among members of a prominent early California family. Antonio María Pico, former alcalde (mayor) of San José, received from his cousin the governor Pío Pico the deed for Mission Santa Clara’s vineyard as well as the Mission houses formerly occupied by the troops. Subsequently, in 1849, Antonio sold part of the property to his relative Andrés Pico, noted military commander.
