Photograph caption dated May 21, 1986 reads, "A Bell 206 helicopter lies on its side after an aborted takeoff from a helipad on the roof of a five-story parking facility at Los Angeles International Airport. Hundreds of passengers waiting in the Bradley International Terminal were startled by a loud boom, 'We thought it might have been a bomb,' said one witness, that resounded when a piece of the rotor struck the skylight above them. They scattered as the floor was showered by glass. Helicopter Services pilot John gamble said he had just discharged two passengers and was heading back to Burbank, but rose no higher off the pad than four or five feet when the rotor quit working. Investigators closed the main entrance to the terminal for a while."
