Description
The Dawn Patrol out of Glendale, c. 1942. Trainee pilots on the duty roster would peer out the barracks window at first light. If they could see Mount Verdugo the mission was on. If not, they would roll over and go back to sleep. The patrol comprised six or seven P-38s and the usual itinerary was to make a sweep to Catalina, circle the area in search of the Imperial Navy, and return. (Royal D Frey, USAF)
