Description
Thought for the day on idolatry and idleness in Christmas culture, and how life should be centered around effective work for one's self and loved ones, and not just long hours for personal profit. Handy begins explaining how God and Calvin desired effective work, not necessarily long work, and his hope that one day society could have more because it produced more with greater efficiency. He also emphasizes the importance of leisure activities and gift work - doing things out of love, such as tending children, taking care of one's home, and looking after one's neighbors. Handy states that, unfortunately, the parts have separated out in modern society, and that people need all three parts - regular effective work, gift work, and recreation - to be whole and fulfilled in the modern age.
