Description
Used in the exhibit "Over Our Heads: Los Angeles Goes From Stargazing to Moon Landing"
Photograph caption dated February 13, 1962 reads "Robert J. Stegen of Canoga Electronics, Van Nuys, looks up at the antenna on the company's grounds at 15330 Oxnard St., which may pick up signals Wednesday from orbiting astronaut John H. Glenn. Stegen said the four-foot diameter ground screen will be tuned in on what is thought to be the frequency of the Mercury capsule--it's classified--and technicians hope to hear the signal. The capsule is due over the California area 80 minutes after launch time, said Stegen. Stegen, manager of the company's antenna and microwave systems department, said Canoga Electronics has supplied the Mercury program with some 60 antennas used for tracking the satellite and its communicating system."
