Description
Image of head-and-shoulders profile portraits of American actor Kate Claxton and British actor Charles A. Stevenson as two bust statues in a circular frame decorated with leaves and berries; the poster and date sheet advertise performances beginning on October 8, [1883], at the Grand Opera House in Brooklyn, New York, of the romantic drama the "Sea of Ice" written by Adolphe d'Ennery.
Lithograph printed in black ink with color letterpress text printed in margins; probable date based on month and day in item text; Claxton performed the play "Sea of Ice" at the Grand Opera House from October 8th-13th in 1883 (Odell, Annals of the New York Stage, Vol. XII, page 365). "Graphic Co. N.Y."--text, lower right. "Week Commencing, Monday, Oct. 8 / Wednesday and Saturday Matinees, / In the Sea of Ice."--text, bottom margin.
