Donal Hord, on the left, and Homer Dana on the ladder, work on a clay model for one of two cast concrete bas-reliefs commissioned for the facade of the new Central Library. The sculptures were created to represent the cultural heritage from both ancient Western and Eastern civilizations. A leading sculptor in San Diego, Donal Hord was also a loyal supporter of the library where he had spent much time in his youth reading books on topics such as Chinese art, Mayan culture and world philosophy. In appreciation for the education he acquired through reading at the public library, he later donated his extensive collection of art books to the San Diego Public Library. Title created by cataloger.
