Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (December 4, 1912 - January 11, 1988) was a United States Marine Corps officer and flying ace during World War II. For his heroic actions, he was awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Boyington died of cancer and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Photograph caption dated March 31, 1959 reads, "Seated in the cockpit of his plane, Pappy Boyington tells Valley Times interviewer the background of his colorful career."
