Description

Originally known as the Hebrew Sheltering Home for the Aged, the Jewish Home for the Aging was founded in Boyle Heights in 1912. About four years later, the Home's first permanent facility was built on Boyle Avenue, where it existed for decades. In 1967, acreage in Reseda was purchased and a facility was built on Victory Boulevard. A merger in 1979 with the Menorah Village created a second campus on Tampa Avenue in Reseda.
Oldest resident of the Jewish Home for the Aging is 104-year-old Benjamin Merapolsky. A former gardener, Benjamin determines the state of the banana trees, located on the grounds of the home, by feeling their leaves.
