Description
„Oberhäuptling Jongintaba“ („Supreme chief Jongintaba“). An African and a European man sitting on chairs. The African man is wearing a suit with a necktie and a hat resting on his lap. The European man is wearing a suit and a coat, holding a hat in his right hand. A bit further behind on the left side three other men, two sitting, one standing behind. One of them is only partly visible, the one sitting next to him is wearing trousers and a coat, holding a stick and a hat in his hands. The one standing behind him is wearing a coat or a jacket and a hat. A wooden fence, maybe a kraal for animals is nearby.
Jongintaba Dalindyebo was supreme chief of the Thembu. He became Nelson Mandela’s guardian after the death of Mandela’s father. Nelson Mandela lived at the homestead of Jongintaba from the age of 9 until 16 and was raised together with Jongintaba's children. -- Wilhelm Friedrich Karl Blohm, born in 1884 in Keffenbrinck (Germany), was a carpenter. In 1911 he married Marie Bürger. He started his missionary work in 1911 in Unyamwezi (East Africa). After being imprisoned by the Belgians from 1916 till 1917 he returned to Germany. From 1922 till 1945 he worked as a missionary in Baziya (South Africa). He died in Baziya in 1945.
