Description
Mr. Markley tests pulleys on the Pacific Electric Red Car No. 1498 preparatory to its move to a museum. Photo caption reads: "F.H. Markley, superintendent of rail equipment at the Pacific Electric Company's Torrance shops, makes one last test of Express Car No. 1498's controls. Retired after 50 years of faithful service, the 56-seat car tomorrow (Friday, April 10) will be hauled to Travel Town in Griffith Park by personnel and equipment of the Belyea Truck Company which is doing the job as a free public service. Located at 5200 Hollingsworth Drive, Travel Town is being developed by the Los Angeles City Recreation and Park Department". Photo dated: Apr. 8, 1953.
