St. Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney was a French parish priest who became a Catholic saint and the patron saint of parish priests. He is often referred to, even in English, as the "Cure d'Ars" (or parish priest of the village of Ars). In 1812 he was sent to the seminary at Verrieres; on August 13, 1815 he was ordained priest; in 1818 M. Vianney was made parish priest of Ars, a village not very far from Lyons; on October 3, 1874, he was proclaimed Venerably by Pius IX; on April 8, 1905 he was Beatified by Pope St. Pius X; and in 1926, Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney was canonized by Pope Pius XI.
