Black and white lantern slide showing the grave of J R Ellery, a pioneer of the Congo Balolo Mission. The grave is surrounded by wooded fencing and a white cross, ornamented on each extremity, reads "JIMBONCI". Simpler crosses marking graves can be seen in the background. John Roberts Ellery was accepted for the Congo Balolo Mission in 1890, and died at Bolengi (Bolenge) in 1906, where his memorial was set. This slide comes from a collection generated by missionaries working for the Congo Balolo Mission, a mission begun in 1889 under the supervision of the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions that developed into the interdenominational evangelical mission, Regions Beyond Missionary Union after 1900.
