Description
Photograph article dated May 20, 1958 partially reads, "The rattling subway ride from downtown Manhattan across the river to the borough of Brooklyn was a trip to the moon for veteran New York sports writers in the fabled era when Babe Herman was hitting baseballs with distinction for the Dodgers. 'The older writers wanted to cover the Yankees and Giants,' Babe was saying one day this week. 'It was a long ride out to Brooklyn and we were in sixth place most of the time I was there. So the papers sent their kids over to cover us. They were guys in their twenties, just breaking in and eager to turn in good stories.'"
