Description
Photograph of Long Beach from across the surf, showing the Hotel Bixby under construction in the distance at right, ca.1906. Numerous bathers frolic in the waves and on the beach nearby. Buildings are visible along the coast all the way to a pier visible in the far distance. Legible signs include: "Majestic Rink". Hotel Bixby was later renamed Virginia. "The death toll of the crash of the Hotel Bixby under construction at Long Beach mounted to 10 today as searchers extricated another body from the tons of debris. No report from the official investigation has been revealed as yet." -- The Express (11 Nov. 1906)
