Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on May 22, 1969 states: "A California Highway Patrol car broke through a paper barrier in a highway opening ceremony on U.S. 50 at Shingle Springs, El Dorado County, at noon yesterday. The new section of freeway, extending west 7.5 miles from Shingle Springs to one mile east of Placerville, was opened to traffic following the ceremony."
