James Chisolm was a merchant who sold merchandise in San Juan, Nevada County.
Justice Courts, presided over by a Justice of the Peace, tried lower level misdemeanor cases such as vagrancy, public disorder, petty larceny, assault & battery, and various "breaches of the peace," all punishable by a fine of $500.00 or less, or 6 months in jail, or less. The Justice of the Peace for Nevada County during 1883-1887 was J. Stollar.
