Description
In 1902, Charles H. Slocum and W. Ralph Gore operated a small general store on the southeast corner of California and Howard (Fair Oaks Blvd.). It is pictured on the left, before it burned down in 1909. The house in the middle, referred to today as the California House, belonged to J. R. Johnston, and the far right building, the Murphy Building, served as a store building and public hall.
