Description
Photograph of a desert tree growing in decomposed granite, [s.d.]. The short, rounded tree stands at center with long arms of dark, thin needles protruding on all sides. Sharp rocks litter the ground of decomposing granite while short, skeletal plants surround the tree. "This is a 3 year old tree growing in rotten granite, decomposed. If you notice, this is a splendid vigorous tree, yet the soil which produces it is of the poorest character on the hills
while some of the brush is as high, none of it is as vigorous".
