Copy black and white photograph from Compton Herald of Stockwell Market building. Caption reads: "Old Market" - Here's a picture of the old Stockwell Market at Tamarind and East Compton Blvd. back in 1909. Wm. J. Stockwell, one of the brothers who ran the store, passed away last Wednesday at the age of 66." This collection consists of color and black and white photographs, negatives, postcard-backed photos, and tin-types. Subjects of the photographs include people, businesses, churches, houses, schools, farming, transportation, and natural disasters. Communities covered in this collection include Compton, Torrance, Carson, Dominguez, Redondo Beach, Lynwood, Lakewood, San Pedro, Wilmington, Los Angeles, Terminal Island, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
