Luther Burbank and Elizabeth Burbank stand next to a block of petrified wood bound for New York, N. Y., in 1921. The flat-bed truck loaded with the petrified wood from the Petrified Forest near Calistoga, California, is parked in front of Burbank's Tupper Street home in Santa Rosa. The wood was on its way to a permanent place in New York's City's Central Park. "5,560 pound Xmas present for New York City ..." See Dec 18 1922 New York Times article on wood coming to NY. Ollie Bockee owned the Petrified Forest at the time.
