Description
This circa-1950 photograph shows Isabelle Jackson, a longtime grammar school teacher, receiving a portrait of herself at an awards show. Born in 1895, Isabelle was educated at Chico State College and was the first person to do “rural teaching” for the college. Later, she would teach at Clarksburg School, followed by Florin School for 28 years. Jackson would advocate for state aid for the Florin area to help residents of the impoverished region. Also, Isabelle would organize and head the first Parent Teacher Association in the Florin and Pleasant Grove (Sutter County) areas. She also headed the 4-H girls’ group for 17 years. Today, an elementary school is named in her honor in the Elk Grove Unified School district.
