Description
Photograph of a view of Van Nuys Boulevard as it was being readied for paving, Los Angeles, ca.1911. A freight car is visible to the right, sitting on the railroad tracks that intersect the boulevard on which an automobile and several pedestrians can be seen, at right. The terrain to either side is flat, dusty and barren. Barrels are strewn beside the railroad tracks. Several passengers ride both standing and sitting in a horse-drawn carriage on the flatlands to the left of the boulevard, while the silhouette of a stagecoach is just visible in the distance to the right. Mountains and a radio tower are visible on the horizon.
