Photograph caption dated August 8, 1934 reads, "Photo shows the start of the bicycle race during the filming of a motion picture at the Winter Garden last night just before the spectacular crash between the 25 bicycles and the motorcycle, which critically injured Dave Landry, champion motorcycle racer, and hurt eight of the bicycle racers. The crash occurred when the motorcycle, on which a camera was mounted, came around the track in one direction photographing the cycle racers speeding in the other direction. The front wheel of Lou Rush's bicycle collapsed and the racers piled up with the motorcycle. Figure 1 shows Landry. Others hurt were Figure 2, Elmer Dyer; 3, Niel Davidson; 4, Lou Rush; 5, Eddie Testa, and 6, Pete Hagopian. All the injured are expected to recover." Note: Comedic actor Joe E. Brown can be seen at center (wearing dark jersey) next to figure 4 (Lou Rush).
