Description
Special advertising section and 1993 Cinco de Mayo official event program for San Jose's festival held May 2, 1993, produced by special sections staff of San Jose Mercury news advertising department. Welcome message on page 3 from Victor Garza, Chairman of the Board, American GI Forum of San Jose. Parade route and entertainment schedule on pages 18 and 19. Comedian Paul Rodriguez was Grand Marshal. Performers include Suzy Gonzalez, Jorge Luis Fanseca ("Que Pasa"), Antonio de Jesus, Stephanie Salas, Ron Herrera and the Outlaws, Franco, Viento Nuevo, and Grupo Lagrima. Cinco de Mayo Queen was Lori Castillo; GI Forum Chapter Queen was Elvia Soberanes. The cover features a depiction by Ken Gutierez of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind and the protector of the arts. Advertisers include Tower Records, KDTV, Tropicana Foods (1630 Story Road & 4140 Monterey Road), Mexicana airlines, San Jose Medical Center, Mervyn's East Shopping Center (2855 Story Road), De La Rosa's Latin American Imports (1163 S. King Road & 2841 Story Road), Hammer & Lewis (19 South First Street), Govea's Mexican Homestyle Cooking (1996 Tully Road), Hispanic Soccer Series at Spartan Stadium, and Budweiser on the back cover.
