Photograph caption dated June 15, 1964 partially reads, "West Valley Det. Sgts. Don Zellers, left, and L. R. Selby examine the Northridge pool in which Richard De Spain's body was found. De Spain's sister-in-law, Louise Wetherby Strickland, was found dead inside the house." The article partially reads, "West valley police said Mrs. Ellen De Spain would probably be freed later today. She had been booked on suspicion of murder in the deaths of 35-year-old Richard De Spain and her sister, Louise Strickland, 52. A post mortem on the bodies showed De Spain died of drowning in the pool at the sister's home at 17540 Parthenia St., Northridge, and Mrs. Strickland died from an overdose of sleeping pills. Mrs. De Spain...was arrested after calling police to inform them that, 'My husband has drowned and I think my sister is dead, too.'; See images #00118682 through #00118684 for all photos in this series.
