Description
Elmer Bernstein was born in New York City on April 4, 1922. He was an American composer and conductor best known for his film scores, his career spanning fifty years. Bernstein composed music for film and television including the scores to The Magnificent Seven, The Ten Commandments (1956), The Great Escape, To Kill a Mockingbird, Ghostbusters, The Black Cauldron, and Airplane! Bernstein won an Academy Award for his score to the film 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' in 1967, and was nominated for fourteen Oscars in total. He died in California on August 18, 2004.
