Description
Photograph of a high-angle view of the old Los Angeles Hall of Records. "The old Hall of Records - it'll die. Will replace Old Hall of records. Negotiations were started yesterday by the County Supervisors to construct a new six-story $17,000,000 County Administration Building to replace the 45-year old Hall of Records. Chief Administrative Officer Arthur J. Will said the new building should be under construction 'later next spring' on Temple street between Hill street and Grand avenue. On motion of Supervisor Herbert C. Legg, the Board at the same time ordered a halt to $250,000 in interior reconstruction work now under way on the Hall of Records. Saving -- Will said construction of the new building will save taxpayers approximately $1,000,000 planned reconstruction of the Hall of Records, which was branded "a firetrap" by the Los Angeles City Fire Department recently. From fund -- Money for construction of the building will come from a long-term loan from the County Employees Retirement Association, it was said. The City Department of Water and Power owns the proposed site for the new county structure but Will said city officials "are interested" in selling the land to the county" -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated, "April 1, 1954".
