Description
V1p179a -- v1p180b In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 179 top and page 180 center. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text written under photo (page 179): "Bursting of a water main causing the street to cave dropping automobiles and teams into the excavation. This is on the site of the present 1913 Gaiety Theatre. The large building opposite is the Orpheum Theatre. [1914 crossed out]" Photo is the same as smaller one on page 180 center, with printed caption: "Break in High Pressure Pipe, O'Farrell Street, Bet. Stockton and Powell Sts., April 29, 1913." View shows wagons, an automobile, and a horse amid the wreckage of the street. A crowd of onlookers and an O'Farrell Street cable car are visible. More of the sides of the view are seen in the smaller photo.
