Heading the regular line of 15,000 persons waiting to get aboard the Freedom Train on February 25, 1948, was the second group of 500 honor students who won priority in essay contests at 400 schools. They were given an hour-long preview before 10 a.m. And they had been preceded by 30 wounded vets from local hospitals who had top priority of the day. Police provide crowd control.
