Description
The façade of the Westminster Presbyterian Church at Thirteenth and N Streets is illuminated by the sun in this June 18, 1928, photograph. Constructed by Campbell Construction in 1926/27 for 350,000 dollars, the church was designed to be multipurpose. A social hall, Sunday school classrooms, large kitchen, memorial chapel, internal courtyard and pastor’s study were part of the building that occupied one quarter of a city block. The Romanesque portal to the church is inscribed with the title “Westminster” and the impression of an open bible. To the left of the portal is the church’s memorial chapel, with a seating capacity of 150. In 1936, finance head of the Presbyterian Church, Dr. A.B. Keeler of New York, called Westminster "the most beautiful Presbyterian church in architecture and the best equipped west of the Mississippi."
