Chief Fred Olchvary, center, 59, are retiring from the Burbank Fire Dept. Fire Chief William Taylor holds up chief's hat neither will wear again. Department had testimonial luncheon Tuesday for Darnaby, who retired Dec. 16, and for Olchvary, who retires Feb. 1. Olchvary, of 927 N. Maple St., joined force in 1926 after stint with Burbank Police Dept. as motor officer and a year with the Internal Revenue Service. Darnaby was foreman of Burbank's Moreland Auto Works in 1927 and drove fire truck they had just built over to department, returned for driver's job."
