Originally known as the Hebrew Sheltering Home for the Aged, the Jewish Home for the Aging was founded in Boyle Heights in 1912. About four years later, the Home's first permanent facility was built on Boyle Avenue, where it existed for decades. In 1967, acreage in Reseda was purchased and a facility was built on Victory Boulevard. A merger in 1979 with the Menorah Village created a second campus on Tampa Avenue in Reseda. Photograph caption dated October 29, 1956 reads, "Watching Mrs. Vrena A. Rosenkranz, right, cut ribbon to building at California Home for Aged at Reseda, 19260 Sherman Way, are, from left, residents Robert Goodman, 88, in wheel chair, and Rose Baker, 76, and Harry Friedman, dedication chairman. Building, named for Mrs. Rosenkranz, will house 24 additional residents."
