Photograph article dated August 4, 1962 partially reads, "Nearly one-third of the University of Southern California School of Medicine's freshman, sophomore and junior students are participating this summer in a $48,000 medical student research training program, covering a wide variety of projects. Sixty-one students, each receiving a fellowship of approximately $800 for the summer, are taking part in the program, according to Dr. Gerald Hungerford, professor of anatomy and chairman of the fellowship committee. The students are working on projects covering such topics as genetics, liver antigenic substances and psychiatric research. Thirteen are involved in the latter program, working under grants totaling $7,200 from the National Institute of Mental Health of the U.S. Public Health Service." Gerard Fareau, 5959 Buffalo St., Van Nuys, is a med student participating in USC research program studying low oxygen effect on heart.
