Description
Shown is the Argonaut Liquor Company, as it stood on Jan. 18, 1938. Founded in the mid-1930s, and located at 517 through 523 I Street, the Argonaut moved into the pictured location in 1937 and was one of just nine liquor wholesalers in Sacramento at the time. Automobiles from the 1920s and 30s era are prominent in the scene. Not so prominent is a sign by the main entrance that reads "No Help Wanted," indicative of a country still trying to pull itself out of a decade of hard times. A spur from the Southern Pacific Railroad ran just behind the business.
