Description
“a Native [o]fficer, Capt Tomblings, Capt. Stone RAMC & two native sergeants, one with DCM [Distinguished Conduct Medal].” Group portrait of two RAMC officers with two African Native Medical Corps (ANMC) sergeants and an ANMC officer. Capt. D G Tomblings was Assistant District Commissioner of the Uganda Protectorate and Adjutant of the ANMC whilst Captain Robert Yelverton Stones, M.C., worked as a missionary throughout Africa. They were two of the officers in command of the ANMC in Dar es Salaam. ❧ The image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in German East Africa and Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During this time he would meet Dr John W Arthur which in turn would lead to his missionary work at Chogoria in Kenya.
