Photograph caption dated November 14, 1947 reads, "Jack Allen Risley, 26, above, was responsible for the tragic death of the boy, according to the verdict returned by the coroner's jury." Note: Patrick Burns, 7, was killed when struck by an automobile driven by Jack A. Risley, 26, in a crosswalk at Ninth and Valencia streets. Witnesses said the car threw the boy 159 feet. Risley was booked on suspicion of manslaughter.
