Original image is a stereographic card. Wagons crowd around the corner of Main and Temple on a Saturday afternoon. Levy & Coblentz, center where all the wagons are, were wholesale liquor dealers. Victor Ponet, whose sign is visible in the lower left, settled in Los Angeles in 1869, manufacturing mirrors and picture frames. The second building from the right is the Bella Union, the city's first and most famous hotel. It had served as the County Courthouse until October 1851, and in 1860 was the location of a champagne fete celebrating the connection of San Francisco and Los Angeles by telegraph.
