Description
Photograph of a rice vendor and three young men by the river docks in China, ca.1900. The vendor stands behind his cart at center, dressed in a hat and apron, his hands at his hips. To the left, the cart holds a cage full of bowls and other crockery, while on the right a large rice steamer can be seen above a small pile of fire-wood. To the right, two young men lean by a post, the leftmost eating from a bowl, the other looking directly to the viewer, his arms at his sides. To the left, the third young man turns his head to the right in laughter, also with a bowl to his chest. The roofs of houses can be seen in the background, just past several men on a skiff that can be seen on the river below. Earlier record reads "Walking Resaurant".
