Description
Photos from the Alum Rock Centennial Celebration, held October 7, 1972 at Alum Rock Park. The program included family activities (bubble gum blowing, 3-legged races, peanut race, shoe relays, wheelbarrow races, dunking booth, wagon rides), performances by the San Jose Municipal Band, Peninsula Banjo Band, Los Lupenos, San Jose Square Dancer's Association Exhibition. The emcee was Dr. Rocci Pisano of the San Jose Parks & Recreation Commission; welcome by Mayor Norman Mineta, unveiling of the Point of Interest plaque by Mrs. Aletha Powers (Chairman of the Alum Rock Park Centennial Committee), presentation of historic pictures by Roy West, "Alum Rock Park's Past" by Harold Flannery (Retired Director of Public Works), and "Alum Rock Park's Future" by Richard O. Reed (Superintendent of Parks).
