Text written under photo: "Burning of the 'Examiner' building April 18th 1906." View looks south from the corner of Kearny and Morton Streets towards the intersection of Third and Market. The Examiner (Hearst) Building is ablaze on its upper floors. This photo was probably taken just prior its being dynamited in a vain attempt to halt the spread of the flames. The Call Building at the extreme right has already been gutted. The Chronicle Building at the left has not yet burned; wooden scaffolding and barriers attest to the construction of its new annex. An automobile is parked facing north on Kearny.
