Description
Photograph of a halftone print of the residence of Elias J. ("Lucky") Baldwin, the former Hugo Reid Adobe, at Rancho Santa Anita, built by Reid in 1839, ca.1900. View through an eliptical cutout. Lawn with bushes and trees in foreground. The 1-story dwelling has a wrap-around covered porch. It was the first house build on Rancho Santa Anita. Reid received the original Mexican grant to the Rancho in 1841. Baldwin purchased it from Harris Newmark in 1875. Baldwin lived there intermittently from 1875 to 1909. It was built on a knoll facing the east with a fine view of the valley east and south.
