Description
A dance "under the apple tree" at the San Bruno USO Club. The USO Club, which catered to locally stationed and returning US troops, was open from July 1942 to January 1946. The Club was located at the old school on Elm Avenue (currently the San Bruno Park School District offices) and run by Mrs. Helen Pinkerton. The "apple tree" may be a reference to the song "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me)," which was made popular by the Andrews Sisters and Glenn Miller during WWII.
