Description
Photographic group portrait of the students and teachers of the Dow School in front of the school building, September 1886. Students, ranging in age from young children to young adults, are posed in rows with teachers interspersed in front of a white picket fence that borders the schoolyard. A man with a moustache and an older woman stand at the right edge of the group. The schoolhouse, a two-story clapboard building with a belltower above its entry, sits to the right of center. A few students sit on the turning bar in front of the building. Two large trees are visible, one each at the left and right edges of the image.
