Description
The home stretch of the Women's Dipsea Hike at Willow Camp (later renamed Stinson Beach). Written on back of photo: "Main Street Willow Camp April 21, 1918." The race was called a "hike" to escape the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) ban on women's long-distance races. This pioneering women's race drew more entrants than the men's race held in September.
