Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph caption reads, When Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were personal-appearing in New York last summer, Costello's pal, Joe DiMaggio showed him a touching letter from the mother of a 10-year-old crippled boy, who, after relating her son's hero-worship for the great slugger, begged Joe to send the lad an autographed baseball. I have no way of reciprocating your kindness, she added, but I understand that you want a son. I'll pray that you have one. Costello, even more superstitious than most actors, talked DiMaggio into offering odds to all comers that the first heir of the Yankee hitsmith would be a boy. It was--and Costello and DiMaggio collected more than $1000 a piece on the roly-poly comic's hunch! Photograph dated: May 5, 1942.
