Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Berth 179 of the Los Angeles Harbor, showing a ship and cargo, ca.1960. A long, low building with several wide doorways runs from the right foreground of the image to the center background, along a paved roadway. Lettering above the nearest doorway reads "Berth 179. Port of Los Angeles" the doorway is also numbered "23". The side of a ship fills the left of the image. A load of cargo hangs in the air in the upper right of the picture, in the process of being hoisted on to or off of the ship. Workers prepare a similar cargo load in the centerground, while workers in the foreground are attending to something inside of the doorway. Another worker sits behind the wheel of a cart in the lower right corner of the image. Several wheeled cargo platforms and a forklift with a load of pallets sit in the roadway.
