Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Description
Celebration honoring Marissa Castro (center), who became an aide to Willie Brown (far right), who, at the time this was taken, was the speaker of the California State Assembly. The man standing between Marissa and Willie is identified as Mike Bruce, former member of the California Assembly. The event took place at the Hyatt Wilshire (now the Radisson Wilshire Plaza), located at 3515 Wilshire Blvd.
